Franchise Opportunities
Currently, we are focusing our domestic franchise program in the eastern, southeastern, and midwestern United States, all of which will complement and benefit from our current company presence and our planned expansion. Internationally, we are focusing new development primarily in Asia and the Middle East. We are franchising on a territorial basis in market areas with a minimum unit potential of 10-20 locations. This multiple unit potential enables our multiple unit franchisees to build a significant business with solid earnings potential.

In the Spring of 1978, businessman Louis Kane was strolling through Boston’s historic Faneuil Hall Marketplace when he came across a display showcasing a new line of French bakery ovens. The aroma and quality of the fresh breads was enchanting. So enchanting in fact, it gave Louis an idea. Why not make wonderful, fresh baked breads and croissants easily available to everyone in the city? From this chance encounter came the first ever Au Bon Pain. And today, there are over 250 Au Bon Pain café's throughout the world, including Kuwait, Japan, Thailand, South Korea, and Taiwan. Twenty-seven years later, a brand new Au Bon Pain was born. In July of 2005, a number of veteran employees completed a management buyout for 75% ownership of the entire Au Bon Pain Corporation. And with it came a bold new direction and a thrilling new future for our company
Why Au Bon Pain?

Our restaurant/café concept is expanding quickly through company-operated and franchised units in both the USA and international markets. Our future is to accelerate development of both company and franchise locations, and we are looking for qualified franchise partners who are excited about Au Bon Pain and our fast growing market segment.
In the USA, we currently have 61 franchisees who primarily operate multiple units. Outside the USA, we presently operate through exclusive franchises in the Republic of Korea, Thailand, and Taiwan and we recently signed territorial commitments in Japan and the Middle East. Franchised cafés now total 61 in the USA and 44 in International markets.
Our highly successful cafés are situated in a variety of trade channels which include: city-center office buildings, major and strip malls, life style centers, airports, hotels, hospitals, universities, and suburban locations. This flexibility has given us a powerful competitive advantage in the bakery café segment of our industry.

Are You a Good Fit for Au Bon Pain?
In order to be considered for an Au Bon Pain franchise, you must have the financial and management resources necessary to develop multiple cafés quickly. We require that you have $350,000 in pre-financing cash available to invest in each location. Aside from financial resources, our ideal candidate has a proven track record of successfully operating multiple retail/foodservice outlets in the proposed area, an established management infrastructure, and access to quality sites. Many of our successful franchisees currently run multiple branded restaurants or quick service outlets and they are looking for a way to leverage their business with a non-competitive brand. Au Bon Pain provides that opportunity as a versatile brand in the fast growing bakery café segment. We feature a healthy offering and unique operating system.
