Rage room chain iSmash is expanding in the Philadelphia region with two development deals, with one at an as yet undisclosed Downingtown location, writes Emma Dooling for the Philadelphia Business Journal

The wreck-it room chain intends to open seven locations in the Philadelphia metropolitan area in the next four years, according to founder and CEO Steven Shortino. The aim is to find family-friendly shopping centers for potential locations.

“If we can be near some sort of other entertainment or just anything to do with family, that’s what the whole business and the whole brand is all about, is family fun,” said Shortino.

The company features so-called “rage rooms” where customers can smash items such as electronics and glassware to relieve stress. iSmash locations also often include spaces for black light splatter painting as well as axe throwing. The company is currently working on adding more activities.

iSmash signed a deal in mid-July with franchisees Corina Dimitru-Fritz and Christine Chang to open a new location in MontgomeryChester, or Delaware County. The sisters are currently in the process of inking a lease on a space in Downingtown.

The iSmash location is expected to open next spring.
