Kings of Junk

September 25, 2010 - SAN CARLOS, Calif. – Remove all the clutter from the past year’s economic mess and it’s clear that junk removal is among the few service franchises that survived the turmoil unscathed.

Despite the economic downturn, Junk King’s growing network of franchisees is “cleaning house” in the multi-billion dollar junk removal and hauling industry where millions of people are constantly looking for dependable service to clear clutter and unwanted items from their homes and businesses. Merely 12 months after launching its franchise opportunity, the burgeoning brand has grown to 19 franchise partners with commitments for 33 units throughout the United States and is on pace to sell all of its territories in the next few years, totaling 150-175 units.

“Everyone has clutter and unwanted items, but few have the time or ability to dispose of it properly,” said Dennis Mulgannon, Director of Franchising for Junk King, emphasizing the opportunity for existing and prospective franchisees to grab a piece of the vast market share in the junk removal industry. “ Whether residential customers with two incomes and little time to clean out their garage or a single mother in need of turning an unused storage room into a home office, there is demand for the service Junk King provides.”

Junk King works with homeowners, realtors, property managers, and business owners in meeting their junk hauling needs, removing everything from old furniture and appliances to yard waste and garden refuse, fencing and lumber to tires and automotive parts.

Further fueling the company’s growth is its continued commitment to environmental responsibility. Recycling up to 60 percent of what is collected from customers, Junk King has already saved nearly 2.3 tons of waste from local landfills.

According to Mulgannon, the “green” mindset not only helps the environment, but allows for increased profits as well. “By recycling most of what we collect, we end up going to the garbage dumps less, which allows us to manage more jobs per day and generate more revenue per truck,” he said, adding that selling recyclables to vendors creates an additional profit center.

Long-time friends Michael Andreacchi and Brian Reardon launched Junk King in 2005 with the ambition of providing environmentally friendly junk hauling services to family and friends. With a signature truck, garage space and entrepreneurial bent, Andreacchi and Reardon quickly saw the potential in the growing market and soon expanded their business to include residential, non-profit and commercial customers. Providing a quick and dependable service that allows home and business owners to reclaim their castles, it didn’t take long for the “Kings of Junk” to turn Junk King into the premier name in junk hauling and removal.

“Peoples’ homes are their castles and we understand they lead busy lives,” Andreacchi said. “We can give them back their garage, basement or spare rooms so that their home will look like they always dreamed.”

To augment the company’s growth, Junk King is currently seeking single and multi-unit franchisees with a strong desire to develop a white collar business management opportunity in a blue collar industry. With a franchise fee of $30,000, the total investment to own and operate a Junk King franchise in an exclusive territory is $90,000 - $150,000.
